Last night as I believe I explained in my blog from yesterday was our night with the Mayen Rotary Club. They basically threw us a party with a tons of food, a ton of liquor, and lots of fun!
When classes got over with yesterday, I booked it home showered, changed, and read in my book for a little while. At 6:40 we were supposed to meet our group and go to the Zimmerman's house, which is acutally a host family of two of our students, they were the ones who held this little shin-dig.
So, when we got there people had some beers, and then the introductions were made. Matthew and I sang again, the same songs "Heidenröslein" accapella, and Matthew sang "Ein Mädchen oder Weibchen" from Die Zauberflöte. Everyone clapped and told us what lovely jobs we did. It was quite nice. Then as if the evening party with free food and drinks wasn't enough, the rotary club had bought us all Mayener Pils Beir Steins. Apparenly at one point in time, Mayen had a brewery, but they were bought by a larger company and the name was changed. So I believe it is really tough to get this mugs and they bought them for us. So nice!
The evening went on with talking, eating, drinking, and for most of us a stumbling night home in the rain. No worries, everyone made it home safe!
Today was our day trip to Koblenz. Which meant no class! yay!!!! We met at the bus station at 9 am and drove the hour or less to Koblenz. When we arrived there, it was quite chilly and very overcast. We went straight to the Deutsches Eck and took pictures, climbed to the top, etc. The thing is, we had about 2 hours before our 2 hour city tour started, so we really had nothing much to do after that. So... we wandered and bought souviners at the stands along the Rhine river close to the Eck.
At 11 am, we started our walking city tour of Koblenz. Guess what...oh thats right, it was all in German again! yipee! Actually, it was a lovely tour and I really learned a lot about Koblenz, however I must admit, at times my mind wandered and all of a sudden I was playing catch up trying to find out what I had missed.
Matthew and I took a lot of pictures, I will upload some of them tomorrow. We saw and heard a lot of history and I was quite impressed with how thorough our guide was.
After the two hour walking tour we had a one hour break for lunch and shopping before our two hour boat ride along the Rhine river. Matthew and I did a little shopping, but then decided we were quite hungry. We went to a nice restaraunt that was actually not too bad price wise for lunch. Matthew had Cordon Bleu with mixed vegatables and croquetts (like potato type things), and I had a gnocchi pasta with a tomato basil sauce and mozerella. It was very tasty and it was fun to sit and people watch. After this, we each got an ice cream cone. Matt 3 scoops, one of which, Zitrone (Lemon) he thought was absolutely to die for and had to go back for another scoop later. I had a Wunder tutte, it was a huge waffle cone with whipped cream, three scoops of ice cream, and choclate syrup all for €3. Not bad huh? Matt's was cheaper, but mine was pretty tasty.
We made it to our boat on time at 2:15 and it took off. It was very relaxing, with a sometimes very strong breeze, which made it quite cool. I was shivering a good part of the time, so Matthew and I sat in the sun a mostly. The way we went on the Rhine was not the most beautiful part of it in my opinion. I like the Rhine south of Koblenz more than the Rhine north of Koblenz, but it was lovely and relaxing just the same.
After the boat tour, we had another hour to go shopping, in which Matthew and I just wandered around.
We meet up with our group at 5pm for our bus departure back to Mayen. I read on the busride back and Matthew slept.
It is now 6:50 pm. I highly doubt that much of anything is going to happen tonight. I think the others are going to go into town to drink. I don't want to, I am just gonna stay here, maybe read and study for my test tomorrow. Matthew might come over later after he has had dinner.
But none-the-less, we hope you are all doing well, and I will put up pictures of Koblenz tomorrow.
By the way. Are people still reading? Because we haven't recieved any comments for a few blogs now and are starting to wonder if you've forgotten us. lol!
